About Camino Real Productions

Camino Real Productions, LLC was founded in Albuquerque in 2006 by veteran actor/director Linda López McAlister. In Albuquerque, our theatrical productions are co-produced with the National Hispanic Cultural Center and are performed in the intimate Wells Fargo Auditorium. Until 2010 we took each of our shows on tour to the Teatro Santa Ana in the Biblioteca Publica in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and we hope to resume that practice in the future.

Our company gets its name from the fact that both Albuquerque and San Miguel de Allende are on the old Camino Real that ran from Mexico City to Santa Fe starting in the 16th Century. We specialize in small-scale, character-driven plays that travel well and delight audiences on both sides of the border.

Camino Real also produces radio theatre pieces for KUNM’s Radio Theatre. These include both original works and plays in our Theatre from the Land of Enchantment series -- radio versions of stage plays produced by the many outstanding live theater companies in Central and Northern New Mexico.

KUNM’s Radio Theatre is heard at 6:00 p.m. (Mountain Time) on KUNM and KUNM HD 89.9 in Albuquerque and Santa Fe as well as on KUNM’s affiliate stations KBOM  88.7 in Socorro, KRRT  90.9 in Arroyo Seco and Taos, KRRE  91.9 in Las Vegas, and KRAR  91.9 in Espanola. Programs are also streamed from the website at and many are available as podcasts for 90 days after broadcast. We are happy to make some of these productions available to you on the Radio Theatre Productions page of this website.

About Linda López McAlister

Camino Real Productions founder and president Linda López McAlister started her theatrical career as a teenager in her native Los Angeles. She then went to New York for college (Barnard) and acted at theatres there and in Michigan and California before trading in her Actors’ Equity card for a Ph.D. (Cornell, ’68) and a thirty-year career as a professor of philosophy and women’s studies and a dean at universities in New York, California, and Florida.

Upon retiring to her ancestral home of New Mexico in 2000, she came back to the theater and has worked in Santa Fe and Albuquerque as an actor, director, production dramaturge, company manager, and stage manager. She now adds “producer” to that list, having founded Camino Real Productions in 2006.

She was nominated for a Best Director Award by the NM Hispano Entertainers Assn. for her work on Still Life: A Theatrical and Musical Portrait of Georgia O’Keeffe and Frida Kahlo. She has directed plays at other Albuquerque theatres including the Adobe Theatre and the Vortex, as well as numerous radio plays.

She is producer and co-host of KUNM’s Radio Theatre, a member of the production staff of the Disney Performing Arts Center at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, and a founding member of the Albuquerque Theatre Guild for which she serves as a board member and publicity committee chair.
